Study Abroad
Mark Twain on STUDY ABROAD: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrowmindedness..." Southwestern supports the mission of the Builders Abroad program by providing partial financial support to students who wish to expand their horizons by studying off-campus for long-term, cross cultural experiences. |
International Study
While Southwestern College institutional aid does not continue for a student studying off campus, the college does offer Builders Abroad Scholarships to five (5) students each fall and spring semester who have their programs approved by SEPTEMBER 1 for the spring semester and APRIL 1 for the fall semester. |
The amount of the scholarship varies and is based on each individual's current levels of academic and need-based financial aid. In cases where more than five students apply, financial need will be taken into consideration. Enrollment in a program of study abroad which is approved for credit by Southwestern College may be considered enrollment at Southwestern College for the purposes of applying for federal student financial aid. The Builder's Abroad scholarship can be combined with federal and state financial aid to finance an experience abroad. Contact the financial aid office for further details and an estimate of amounts.
If a student is receiving scholarships from the school being visited, or from programs established to encourage study abroad, Southwestern reserves the right to adjust its aid based on the amount being received from those services. For further information about cost and application procedures, see the Builder's Abroad website.
Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture

These students must have their programs approved by the program's faculty coordinator by NOVEMBER 1 for the spring semester and APRIL 1 for the fall semester. These scholarships can be combined with state and federal financial aid to finance the experience in Chicago.
