SC Honors Faculty and Staff

Outstanding faculty and staff were recognized at Southwestern College by the college’s board of trustees.  Four awards were presented Friday, April 17, for outstanding service to the college, and 23 employees were honored for years of service.
Presented were the Fassnacht Outstanding Administrator/Staff (Campus) Award to Veronica McAsey, the Fassnacht Outstanding Administrator/Staff Award (Professional Studies) to Dana Johnson, the Fassnacht Outstanding Faculty Award to Pam Green, and the United Methodist Exemplary Teacher Award to Kristen Pettey.

Fassnacht Winners 2009

• Veronica McAsey has been the director of Deets Library at Southwestern College since 2007. “Veronica has also overseen a number of positive changes in the management of student workers, a revision of the library web page, a reconfiguration of library data bases that provides greater access to information at a lower cost for the college,” says Andy Sheppard, academic dean at Southwestern.  “And, she did it all while lending guidance to construction workers who tore apart her building and remodeled the facility (Deets Library) that we all now enjoy.”
• Dana Johnson facilitates professional studies operations for Southwestern College’s Professional Studies site in Winfield. “This award is not given to a staff member who simply ‘does their job’, this award is given to members of the college community who go above and beyond – they excel…they exceed expectations…they exemplify high levels of commitment and service,” says Karen Pedersen, vice president for Southwestern College Professional Studies.  “Dana recently took a leadership role by organizing a very successful women’s conference at the college.  The conference involved women from across the state and it was incredibly energizing.  That conference wouldn’t have happened without Dana and other key contributors.”
• Pam Green, director of secondary education, has been on the SC faculty since 2007. “Pam has been an invaluable member of the assessment committee where she has helped to facilitate our AQIP assessment project and she has exhibited keen leadership in the development of a wellness course for our general education program,” Sheppard says.
• Kristen Pettey, assistant professor of business, has been at employed at Southwestern since 2008.  Pettey graduated from SC in 1998 with a bachelor of arts degree in physics.  “Kristen has actively engaged just about every aspect of the college,” Sheppard says.  “In addition to her teaching, she has sung the national anthem at football and basketball games, supported the tennis team, and served as a mentor through Discipleship Southwestern.  Kristen has actively recruited new students to the business program and she recently started a chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, a national education association dedicated to the preparation of future business leaders.”
Awards for years of service were also presented for:
