Uncertain Economy Prompts Course Offering

Southwestern College Professional Studies is offering a special discounted tuition on a course that will be available to take either on site or online. The course focuses on developing workforce talent and is aimed at learners assessing their own career strengths.

Karen Pedersen, vice president for professional studies, feels this course is a necessity during today’s tough economic times.  The course will focus on the development of a personal plan that will provide insight into abilities, strengths, and weaknesses that help people to succeed professionally.  It will include skills assessment, career planning, developing the attributes and talents that help people move both up and laterally in organizations.  It will also look at the current trends in organization effectiveness.

“We understand with all of the layoffs and downsizing going on that this is a must-have course,” Pedersen says.  “This course is great for that person who hasn’t been in the job search market for some time, who needs to sharpen up their skills and their resume.”

The college is offering this class at a reduced rate for three credit hours. The tuition for the course is $255 ($85 per credit hour) for the on-ground course and $290 ($85 per credit hour plus a $35 technology fee) for the online course.  According to Pedersen, this is a greatly discounted tuition rate to allow for participation by anyone who is interested in completing this course for their personal/professional development.

“In these turbulent financial times, we want to make this course incredibly accessible for those who may be interested,” Pedersen says.

The course will be offered in a six-week, online format from Jan. 5—Feb. 15.  It will be offered on Tuesday’s from 6 – 10 p.m., from Feb. 17—March 24, in a classroom setting at the Wichita West Professional Studies location, 3460 North Ridge Road – Suite 50.
