SC Cheer and Dance Team Online Tryouts
Kelci Feist, Southwestern College head cheer and dance coach, has announced that the teams will be doing online tryouts for the 2020-21 school year due to Covid-19. All tryouts will now be viewed by video submission. Videos need to be received by May 31.
JINX Dance team, cheer team, and mascot hopefuls will need to fill out an online application. The form may be found at www.sckans.edu/dance and www.sckans.edu/cheer.
“It’s important that student-athletes who are trying out for the squad demonstrate their skills and spirit in the video submission – regarding technical skills, I would expect to see splits, high kicks, turns, and chants,” said Feist. “Though we would prefer to meet with prospective team members in-person, we are making the best of this situation and finding ways to connect. Our team is looking forward to gathering again in August to cheer on our Moundbuilders.”
Feist adds that dance and cheer team student-athletes are eligible for athletic in addition to academic scholarships and she looks forward to talking more with interested students about the opportunity at Southwestern.
The SC JINX Dance Team performs at all home football and basketball games. The team will also occasionally participate in regional fine arts productions.
The Southwestern College cheerleading team performs at all home football, volleyball, and basketball games. The team also participates in regional showcases and competitive events.
Each year, the cheerleading and dance teams participate in numerous campus traditions including, the Moundbuilding Ceremony, Homecoming Parade and Homecoming Bonfire. Each squad practices three to four days a week with practice times arranged around team members' academic schedules.
Feist is also looking for one or two more student-athletes to fill mascot positions
“We have an excellent group of student-athletes who are focused on becoming better each day and who are good friends to each other – it is important that members of our dance and cheer teams be good representatives of Southwestern and that they truly be Builders,” said Feist.
