Library Receives State Library Grant

Veronica McAsey, library director for Southwestern College’s Memorial Library, says the library received an Interlibrary Loan Development Grant of $1,000 from the State Library of Kansas to purchase nursing materials.

“We will be purchasing books and CD-ROMs,” McAsey says.  “Half of the money will be used to purchase e-books.  It will help improve our collection and it also helps the state’s virtual library.  Anyone will be able to access the material.”

Martha Butler, nursing program director at Southwestern, looks forward to the addition of nursing supplies.

“We are pleased to have the ability to increase our electronic library holdings in nursing,” Butler says.  “Because information and technology change so rapidly in medicine and nursing, it is important to have current information as we learn about the effective delivery of health care.”

The grant program is funded by the state of Kansas, and administered by the State Library of Kansas.

“Initiated in 1985, the Interlibrary Loan Development Program (ILDP) encourages the use of grant funding to strengthen library collections and enhance resource sharing within the state,” said Patti Butcher, Director of Statewide Resource Sharing for the State Library.

The grant permits the library to update and expand its collection.  Having these materials available locally saves time for the library’s users and enhances the library’s contribution to the statewide interlibrary loan resource sharing, according to Butcher.
