SC Enactus Team and Kline Motors Donate $8,000 to Winfield Food Pantry
An $8,000 check was presented to the Winfield Food Pantry by the Southwestern College Enactus team and Kline Motors, results of the Lincoln Motor Company's Driven to Give event held on the SC campus April 30. The check presentation was June 23.
During the event, community members were encouraged to test drive a Lincoln vehicle at Southwestern, with a donation being made to a community organization for each drive up to a maximum of $8,000. Jeremy Biddle, general manager of Kline Motors, and Patrick Lee, SC Enactus advisor, decided to focus efforts on an immediate need that could make the biggest impact in the Winfield community — the Winfield Food Pantry.
Tyler Crandall, a 2016 Southwestern College graduate, was project manager for this event and Raul Martinez, sophomore accounting major, was the assistant project manager.
"After doing this event for years, the SC Enactus team not only produced a great event, but was able to achieve the $8,000 goal in the fastest time we have ever seen," Biddle said.
Lee was thrilled with the end result.
“We cannot thank the Winfield community and Southwestern College students enough who came out in droves to support a great organization for a great cause,” Lee said. “We saw a ton of student engagement from our student leaders and those who came out and brought their friends. The community came out early and showed up to make sure we hit our goal.”
According to Lee, planning has already started to host another on-campus event during Homecoming weekend and the SC Enactus team is looking forward to working with Kline Motors to put on another successful community event.
Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. About 1,600 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at six professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.
