SC Student Attends Convention in Georgia

An English major from Southwestern College is attending a national convention in Atlanta, Ga.

Brian Nelson, a junior from Garden City, is attending the National Convention of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).   The convention continues through Sunday, Sept. 7. Nelson, a member of the Collegian staff at Southwestern, also seeks a minor degree in new media.

Nelson’s trip to Atlanta is part of a scholarship he received from the Wichita chapter of SPJ. He was also awarded a $1,500 Mike Bates Memorial scholarship and a $500 Sunshine Coalition scholarship.

Nelson graduated from Garden City High School and Garden City Community College.
