Something for Everyone at Builder Fest

The second annual Builder Fest will kick off the new season for the Southwestern College Moundbuilder football team.

Builder Fest is slated for Saturday, Sept. 13, and head football coach Ken Crandall and his planning committee have filled the event with food, football, and fun.

Crandall is suggesting that fans bring non-perishable food items to support the Winfield Food Pantry.  A pyramid of canned goods will be constructed through out the evening before being delivered. Requested items include canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese, pasta, rice, and oatmeal.

“We are hoping to bring the community and the campus together,” Crandall says.  “The youth football game will initiate Builder Fest and our game will conclude it.”

Builder Fest events include:

  • At 3 p.m., the Winfield sixth grade football team will play Rose Hill inside Sonner Stadium.
  • At 5 p.m., on the south end of Sonner Stadium, games, salsa contest, and musical entertainment will begin.
  • Southwestern College food service will be serving hamburgers or hot dogs with potato chips and a drink for $3.  Snow cones will also be on sale.
  • At 7 p.m., the Southwestern College football team will battle the University of Saint Mary in the KCAC opener for both teams.

Just before the Moundbuilders take the field, Crandall is inviting all fans to form a “Builder Canal” at the south end of Sonner Stadium.  The SC football team will run through the canal as they enter the field.

The game also is Cowley Appreciation Night, and admission to the SC-Saint Mary game is free for all Cowley County residents and Southwestern College students.

Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.  More than 1,900 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus; at seven professional studies sites in three states; or online at www.sckans.edu.
