Guest Lecture: Linda Hargrove

The incredible SC alum and basketball coach Linda Hargrove is speaking at 11 am this Friday in Deets Library!

Linda Hargrove is a 1975 Southwestern College graduate and had a phenomenal career in women’s basketball, beginning at Cowley College and Wichita State University. She then moved on to excel in the professional ranks as Head Coach and General Manager in both the American Basketball League and the Women's National Basketball Association.

Apart from the WNBA, Hargrove was an assistant coach for the United States women's national basketball team who won a gold medal at the 1990 FIBA World Championship for Women and a bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. She has been inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Southwestern Athletic Hall of Fame.

Back in 2017, when Linda Hargrove was hired at Wichita State University, she said “The main thing from my perspective is to not only try to be as successful as we can on the court, but it’s to try to help these young women have a positive experience and feel good about [the] program and [college].”

Her campus speaking engagement is facilitated by SC Professor and alum Lisa Braun, her friend and mentor.

Although it is a busy time of year, we encourage the entire campus, the local community, and especially students (athletes or not, women or not) to attend.
