24 Hour Play Festival
Theatre Builders,
Campus Players, Horsefeathers & Applesauce alumni, students, alumni, family, and friends,
If you are playwright, director, actor, or technician, have ever done theatre with us or would like to, the SC Theatre Department is inviting you to join us for our 3rd annual 24-Hour Plays festival. Come join us next weekend, September 12th and 13th at Southwestern College, and let’s play!
If you have never had this experience, let me give you an idea of what to expect. Brace yourselves!
Who: You and a great big circle of old and new SC theatre-builders from here and beyond, including current theatre students, Campus Players, H&A alumni, prospective students, prospective community college and high school thespians, family, and friends will come together, as playwrights, actors, directors, managers and technicians, to create and present an evening of theatre… in 24 hours.
Where: Southwestern College. Richardson Performing Arts Center in Winfield, KS.
When: From Friday, September 12th at 9:30 pm to Saturday, September 13th at 9:30 pm, we will write, rehearse, and prepare an evening of 10-minute plays which will be performed Saturday, September 13h at 7:30 pm, so that we can strike and be done by 9:30. 24-hours, then we’ll party!
What: Each participant brings a costume (not necessarily to be worn by you) and a prop (not necessarily to be used by you.) These costumes and props are items will help introduce you, and we’ll all share them for possible use in the plays. You, your costumes and props will be the inspiration for up to six 10-minute plays to be written on the spot. Oh, yes, and bring a great collaborative attitude!
Why: To work creatively with fellow theatre artists, honor and develop your dramatic talents, pay homage to the gods of the theatre, and have a hoot of a good time!
How: Through creativity, collaboration, dedication, hard work, and insanity.
Cost: $25 per person. This cost covers housing (unless you live close and/or would like to provide your own), food for 24 hours, plus the cast party, lot of paper, and printing of scripts. We’ll take care of you!
Questions: If you have questions quickly call or e-mail me.
Now: Fill out the attached Registration and send it back! Let us know how you and your students, family, and/or friends would like to participate. We’ll quickly send you a detailed time schedule, and description of your jobs with some “mini-lessons” for making the process more productive.
We know we’ll have a great time working together, and we hope you will join us.
It is soon, but if we work fast, we know we can do it!
