Great African Americans In SC History: A Presentation by Dawn Pleas-Bailey
Dawn Pleas-Bailey, vice president for student affairs at Southwestern College, will present “Great African Americans in SC History” on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. in Wroten Hall on the Southwestern College campus. There is no admission charge.
“In a time and a place where desegregation was frowned upon, Southwestern College and these early pioneers stood up for education and civil rights,” Pleas-Bailey says.
According to Pleas-Bailey, some of the interesting figures she will talk about include Rev. Elijah Pilgrim Geiger, the first African American graduate in 1899; Ambrose Price Woodard who went on to be an attorney and federal court judge; and Dr. Leroy G Moore who was the colleges first African-American athlete.
Snacks and beverages will be provided by Sodexo.
