SC Singers and A Cappella Choir to Perform Three-City Tour

David Gardner, director of choirs at Southwestern College, has announced that the college’s A Cappella Choir and SC Singers Spring Tour will perform in three different towns this month.

The tour will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Kingfisher, Okla.  It will continue on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia.  The spring tour will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 19, at First United Methodist Church in Winfield.  All three of the concerts will begin at 7 p.m.

Initially formed in 1927, Southwestern College’s A Cappella Choir has built a long-standing reputation of excellence throughout Kansas and the Midwest. Under the direction of Gardner, the ensemble performs works by a variety of composers in styles ranging from spirituals and gospel to major works by the great historical composers.  The SC Singers is a select ensemble whose members are auditioned from within the A Cappella Choir.

In the past few years the choirs have appeared on television, performed with both the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Wichita Grand Opera, and formed the core of a mass choir conducted by Gardner in New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall.  They returned to Carnegie Hall in March of 2010 and also performed for the Kansas Music Educators Association in February 2010.
