Sparks to Perform Senior Music Recital
Southwestern College will host the senior recital for Kara Sparks, Dodge City. The recital will take place Friday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Center on the campus of Southwestern College. Sparks is a senior majoring in music education. There is no admission charge.
Sparks will be singing several numbers and will also perform on the trumpet.
She will sing “Flow My Tears” by John Dowland; “When I have Often Heard Young Maids Complaining” from “The Fairy Queen” by Henry Purcell; Es muss ein Wunderbares” by Franz Liszt; “Der Tod und das Mädchen” by Franz Schubert; “Se Florindo è fedele” by Alessandro Scarlatti; “Non posso disperar” by S. De Luca; “Love’s Philosophy” from “Three Songs;” “Op. 3” by Roger Quilter; and “At Last” with music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Mack Gordon, and arranged by Jay Althouse.
The instrumental numbers are “Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major,” “Andante and Allegro” by Franz Joseph Haydn, and “Concert Etude” by Alexander Goedicke.
Sparks is a student of Sarah Stevens, affiliate faculty for voice, and Mike Jones, assistant professor of music. This recital is in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the bachelor of music education degree. A reception will follow the recital.
Sparks is the daughter of Stacy Sparks, Winfield, and Dave Sparks, Emporia. She is the granddaughter of Karen Friend, Dodge City, and Carl and Lorene Sparks, Minneola.
