SK Symphony to Perform Followed by Instrumental Petting Zoo
The South Kansas Symphony at Southwestern College has all treats and no tricks for families when it presents “Ghosts & Goblins” on Friday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. The Symphony and Southwestern College Youth Symphony will perform, in costume, in Richardson Auditorium in the Christy Administration Building on the campus of Southwestern College.
“This season, we wanted to include a family concert, complete with activity sheets, dancing and marching, and audience participation, so Halloween was the natural choice,” says executive director and conductor Daniel Stevens. “Our own families, my own young children, will be there and we want them to have a great time.”
The short, interactive program is programmed with young children and families in mind. It features film composer John Williams’s score for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” music from “Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Saint-Saens’ “Danse Macabre” featuring concertmaster Maciek Zawadaski on violin. Every child will receive a door prize and each one who comes in costume will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. After the concert the symphony will offer an instrument petting zoo.
“Parents need not to worry,” says Stevens, “the zookeepers will sanitize the instruments in between each child so the fun stays safe.”
The event is underwritten by Helen D. Branscum.
