South Kansas Symphony to Perform Sunday Oct. 11

The South Kansas Symphony at Southwestern College will open its 105th season with a performance of “Emotion” on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium in Christy Administration Building.  The program features Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 in E minor.

“The Rachmaninoff was a choice the advisory board of the symphony was rooting for last December when we were discussing this season,” says executive director and conductor Daniel Stevens. “It is a work much enjoyed by audiences for the sweeping melodies and sheer drama. The musicians are now experiencing the hard work that it requires. It’s a gorgeous and difficult work that is challenging and inspiring the orchestra.”

Another highlight is Castlenuovo-Tedesco’s Concerto No. 1 in D Major, featuring David Brody on guitar. Brody is the band director at Wellington High School, as well as professor of classical guitar at Wichita State University.  He is accompanied by 15 musicians within the orchestra.  Rounding out the concert will be Mozart’s Symphony No. 27 in G Major.

The event is underwritten by Jane Duncan and Craig and Dianna Duncan.

Tickets for the performance are $5 and may be purchased in advance or at the door.
