SC Choral Festival to Kick Off Performing Arts Schedule

The first event on the Southwestern College performing arts calendar is the SC Choral Festival set for Monday, Sept. 28.  It will culminate with a free concert at 4:30 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium.

The festival is a one-day event for area high school students.

David Gardner photo“The festival is a great opportunity for high school students to set aside school rivalries and come together to make glorious music,” says Southwestern College director of choirs David Gardner.  “It also gives these serious music students an opportunity to learn and perform the pieces they’ll be required to sing for the district honor choir and the Kansas all-state choir auditions.”

Participating schools include: Winfield High School, Matt Berthot, director; Udall High School, Andrea Mendoza, director; Douglass High School, Brian Stranghoner, director; and Wichita Heights High School, Mark Walker, director.

In addition to the massed choir, the SC A Cappella Choir and SC Singers will perform during the afternoon concert.

“I’m very excited about the college choirs this year.  We have many outstanding
returning students as well as an unusually talented group of freshmen.  I hope the Winfield community will come out to enjoy the sounds of this year’s festival,” Gardner says.
