Spring Choir Tour to Conclude With Home Concert

The Southwestern College A Cappella Choir and SC Singers Spring Tour will conclude with an 8 p.m. performance Saturday, April 18, in Richardson Auditorium.  There is no admission charge.

A Cappella Choir Rehearsal

Initially formed in 1927, Southwestern College’s A Cappella Choir has built a long-standing reputation of excellence throughout Kansas and the Midwest. Under the direction of David Gardner, the 50-voice ensemble performs works by a variety of composers in styles ranging from spirituals and gospel to major works by the great historical composers.  The SC Singers is a select ensemble whose members are auditioned from within the A Cappella Choir.
In the past few years the choirs have appeared on television, performed with both the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and Wichita Grand Opera, and formed the core of a mass choir conducted by Gardner in New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall.  They have been invited to return to Carnegie Hall in March of 2010 to perform Mozart’s “Vesperae solennes de Confessore, K. 339,” under the auspices of Distinguished Concerts International, New York.
The groups tour every year during the spring semester, and this year they traveled to western Kansas and eastern Colorado.  Tour stops have included Colorado Springs, Hugoton, and Hays.
