SC Music Department to Present Annual Winterfest Concert

The Southwestern College music department will present its annual Winterfest Concert on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m., in the Richardson Performing Arts Center.  There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend.

Southwestern College President Brad Andrews and his wife, Trish, will host the event.  The concert is sponsored by Joan Fenema Jones.

Winterfest is a collaboration between A Cappella Choir, JourneyKids Choir, the South Kansas Symphony, the Southwestern College Choral Union, and the Southwestern College Percussion Ensemble. Conducting the concert selections are Jeremy Kirk, assistant professor of music; Nikki Kirk, JourneyKids Choir; Aaron Knodle, assistant professor of music; and Amber Peterson, assistant professor of music, along with James Leland providing organ accompaniment.

According to Knodle, the A Cappella Choir, the Choral Union, and JourneyKids Choir will offer both traditional and contemporary selections, the Percussion Ensemble will present arrangements with both swing and Latin rhythms, and the South Kansas Symphony will offer several variations of “Sleigh Ride.”

“We will conclude the concert with the combined choral and orchestral forces presenting F. Melius Christiansen’s ‘Beautiful Savior,’ Dan Forrest’s arrangements of the ‘Huron Carol’ and ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful,’ and Dan Goeller’s ‘Christmas Carol Sing-Along,’” Knodle says.
