The South Kansas Symphony will be concluding its 2017-2018 season with "Revival" on Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m., in the Richardson Performing Arts Center. The symphony's spring concert features the 2018 South Kansas Symphony Concerto Competition winners.

Jonathan Lee of Winfield is the 2018 senior division winner. He will perform the first movement of Hummel's “Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra.” Lee is a freshman music education major at Southwestern. 

The junior division winner is Sarah Smith, a senior from Maize High School. She will perform the Finale from Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor.  Next year, Smith will be pursuing majors in cello performance and music education. Aidan Wells, this season's assistant conductor as well as Smith's accompanist for the competition, will conduct Smith's concerto with the symphony.

Other finalists from this year's competition will also be recognized: Sarrah Sultz (second place senior division finalist), Taylor Herrman (second place junior division finalist) and Riley Ziegler (third place junior division). 

Besides accompanying the winners on their concerto, the symphony will be performing “Fugue in C minor” by Bach/Elgar and Symphony No. 5 "Reformation" by Mendelssohn.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children (5-18), and free for Southwestern College faculty, staff, students, and youth symphony members and children under five.
