Concert Band to Honor War Heroes

The Southwestern College concert band will perform its first concert of the season Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m., in Richardson Auditorium in the Christy Administration Building.

The concert will be a heroic tribute to the war heroes of the past and the present.  According to Daniel Stevens, assistant professor of music and director of strings at SC, each musical piece will recognize a different war era.

Some of the selections include “Ashokan Farewell” by Jay Ungar; “The Patriot” by John Williams; and “American Civil War Fantasy” by Jerry H. Bilik which incorporates childhood songs such as “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” “Dixie,” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

This will be the first of 11 concerts led by Stevens.  Season tickets are still available including the exclusive Golden Circle club.  For $500, a Golden Circle couple will receive season tickets to nine on-campus concerts, preferred parking and seating to all concerts, invitations to five receptions held before or after the concerts and two meals served at the Winfield Country Club with transportation provided by the trolley.
