JourneyKids Choir Spring Semester Rehearsals Begin Feb. 2

The Community Music School has announced that JourneyKids Choir will start spring semester rehearsals on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., in Darbeth Rehearsal Hall at Southwestern College. JourneyKids Choir is a performance ensemble composed of students in grades 3 through 6 from the Cowley County and surrounding communities.

The JourneyKids Choir is under the direction of Nikki Kirk, music educator in the Arkansas City public school district, where she teaches kindergarten through fifth grade general music at C-4 Elementary and Jefferson Elementary. Kirk also serves as the director of music at the First Presbyterian Church of Winfield and is an adjunct instructor of music at Southwestern College.

“I’m excited for our spring semester of the JourneyKids Choir,” Kirk says.  “In the fall, the students spend some time getting to know one another and working toward improving their individual singing technique and knowledge. The spring semester is a time of growth where the students truly come together as an ensemble. The resulting experience is always magical. I look forward to guiding them along their journey.”

Along with weekly rehearsals, the JourneyKids Choir will have performances throughout the spring, including an Honor Choir Day at Southwestern College. To get involved contact Community Music School Director Dylan Moore at (620) 229-6188 or cms@sckans.edu. The cost to participate in JourneyKids Choir is $10 per month, per child.
