Join The Community Music School on Thursday, Dec. 15, for a night of celebration as they present their winter recitals in Messenger Recital inside the Darbeth Fine Arts Center.  There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend. 

 “This special night is a chance to meet our current students and teachers to see what the CMS is all about,” says Dylan Moore, director of the Community Music School.  “These recitals are an opportunity for our students, that range from 4 years to 78 years old, to perform holiday and other pieces for their parents and families. Our winter recitals provide a unique opportunity to experience students moving through the spectrum of musical learning from its inception to mastery.”

Student performances will represent a wide range of public schools including: Whittier Elementary, CountryView Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Trinity Lutheran Academy, C4 Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Oxford Elementary, Udall Elementary, Straight Paths Academy, Winfield Middle and High School, Arkansas City Middle and High School, and Oxford High School.

Recital A students will perform at 6 p.m., which will include performances on the violin, piano, and percussion.  The JourneyKids Choir will also perform some holiday tunes in Recital A.

Recital B students will perform at 7:30 p.m., and will include pieces on the violin, piano, percussion, and voice.

“This night is a chance for our students to show their progress and celebrate all of their growth throughout the semester,” Moore says.  “You will hear music from the classical and contemporary genres, including pieces by W.A. Mozart, Jason Robert Brown, Antonio Vivaldi, Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin, Faber & Faber, and many more.”

Both recitals will be held in Messenger Recital Hall on Southwestern College’s campus. After each recital, there will be a celebratory reception with punch and desserts. For questions, call Moore at (620) 229-6188.
