SCCU to Present Concert August 20
The Southwestern College Choral Union will feature women’s choral music in its second Summer Sing concert, “There After” on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m., in the Richardson Performing Arts Center on the campus of Southwestern College.
“This concert theme is all about the things that await us after a choice, event, opportunity, loss, and life,” says director Brian Winnie. “We hope the community will come celebrate the joy of women’s choral music, the close of our summer season, and the welcome back weekend at SC.”
Featured selections include Randall Thompson’s “A Girl’s Garden,” Susan Brumfield’s “No Time,” an arrangement of “Bring Me Little Water, Silvey” with body percussion, and much more. This concert will also feature soloists performing selections from the musicals “Little Princess” and “Wicked.”
Tickets are available at the door for $5 for adults while students and children are free.
The SCCU Fall rehearsal season, “Knowing You,” starts Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m. Songs include selections from Handel’s “Messiah” and Rutter’s “Requiem,” and features composers such as Eric Whitacre, Rene Clausen, Craig Hella Johnson, and Shawn Kirchner. The concert is Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. According to Winnie, all singers ages 16 and older are welcome, and there will be open rehearsals throughout the month of September.
