SCCU Women’s Choir Rehearsals Begin July 19

The Southwestern College Choral Union (SCCU) will begin rehearsals for its second annual SCCU Women’s Choir Summer Sings Program on Tuesday, July 19th.  Rehearsals are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Darbeth Rehearsal Hall located in the Darbeth Fine Arts Center on the Southwestern College campus.

Brian Winnie, director of choral activities and voice at Southwestern College, says that girls and women ages 14 and up are encouraged to join the summer choir to sing in a friendly learning environment.

“We welcome anyone to come sit in on rehearsals and sing with us,” Winnie says.  “Whether you are a seasoned veteran singer, need brushing up on your skills, or have never sung before, we invite you to join us for our Summer Sings program of ‘There After.’ This program features music about the possibilities that await us.”

The SCCU Summer Sings concert will be presented in Richardson Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m.  The fee to participate in the summer program is $60 for adults, $20 for SC or community students. Scholarships and financial assistance are available.

“We hope community members and students will join us as we continue to reawaken community choral singing in Winfield,” Winnie says.  “If a business is interested in sponsorship, providing scholarships, or other contributions or donations, I hope they will contact Charles McKinzie (Southwestern College advancement officer) or myself.”

For answers to questions regarding this opportunity or for more information about the SCCU, contact Winnie (620-229-6302) or McKinzie (620-229-6288).
