Weinert to Present Guest Trombone Recital
Kansas State senior and Winfield High School graduate Peter Weinert will present a guest trombone recital on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m., in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Building. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
“I am very pleased to bring Peter Weinert back to Winfield for a trombone recital here at Southwestern,” says Christopher Schmitz, associate professor of music at Southwestern College. “Peter is a highly skilled trombonist and will be performing some of the most advanced solo literature written for the instrument. I want to invite all of the Winfield community as well as Southwestern students and faculty to come out and enjoy some wonderful music.”
Weinert is the son of Lyle and Sara Weinert, Winfield. He will complete his undergraduate degree in May 2013 with dual degrees in trombone performance and in music education. A student of Dr. Paul Hunt, he placed second in the university-wide honors recital during the spring of 2012, and first in the concerto competition held this fall. As a result, he soloed with the Kansas State Orchestra on Oct. 16.
He also has held a variety of leadership positions in performance groups and in the music department. He was KSU Marching Band Music Instructor of the Year three times, received the KSU Marching Band Rod Funk Leadership Award in 2009, and was the marching band Rookie of the Year in 2008. He has been a featured soloist with the marching band, the brass ensemble, and the trombone choir, and was trombone section leader of the Wind Ensemble from 2009 to 2012.
