South Kansas Symphony Halloween Concert Coming Oct. 28
The South Kansas Symphony will host its annual Family Halloween Concert on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. in the Richardson Performing Arts Center in the Christy Administration Building on the Southwestern College campus in Winfield.
The short, interactive concert is programmed with young children and families in mind. The musicians and conductor perform in costume and the musical selections – all of light-heartedly spooky variety – are interspersed with information about the music and the instruments. Every child will receive a coupon for a free Frosty from Wendy’s and every child who comes in costume will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. After the concert the symphony will offer an instrument petting zoo for young audience members to try out instruments from the different sections of the orchestra.
“I am so excited that we will be joined once again by Joanna Brazil from the Winfield Public Library who will share Halloween stories with us,” says executive director and conductor Daniel Stevens. “After the performance, don’t miss the instrument petting zoo where children can try out an instrument from each section with help from a symphony musician.”
Devices to assist those with hearing problems are available in the box office, and an area is reserved for handicapped patrons and their companions in the rear of the hall.
The performance is underwritten by Dick and Joan Jones. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door and range from $6 to $10 for adults; children 17 and under in costume are free with an adult admission but do need a ticket.
