CMS Registration August 8-10

The Community Music School at Southwestern College will be holding fall registration Monday through Wednesday, August 8-10, in the Darbeth Fine Arts Lobby from 4 to 6 p.m.  Students of all ages are welcome to sign up.  Those unable to attend the walk-in registration are encouraged to register online.

A wide variety of private lessons, ensembles, and classes will be offered starting the week of Aug. 22.

Hannah (Finney) Northerns is the new administrator for the Community Music School.  She is a 2001 graduate of Winfield High School and is the daughter of Jim and Susan Finney, Winfield.  Northerns graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelors of music education degree.  She earned her master’s degree in music education with an emphasis in special education from Wichita State University.  Prior to coming to the CMS, Northerns taught elementary music in Sublette.

“I know how important the arts are to this community,” Northerns says.   “My goal for Southwestern's Community Music School is to provide unique performance opportunities for the CMS students that they may not normally have.”

Northerns says that more exposure for the CMS students at functions such as banquets, community events, and meetings will give them an ongoing presence in the community.
“Students who have the opportunity to perform in a variety of settings will become more confident and comfortable sharing their music with others.”

The mission of the Community Music School at Southwestern College is to nurture the fine arts community of South Central Kansas and North Central Oklahoma with rich, musical experiences for people of all ages.

For more information concerning the CMS, call (620) 229-6188 or go online at www.sckans.edu/cms.  Northerns can be reached by email at hannah.northerns@sckans.edu.

Due to construction, the south end of King Drive is closed.  To access King Drive, go to Fowler Street and enter from the north.
