SC Outstanding in CASE Competition

Southwestern College was recognized for excellence during the annual CASE District VI awards competition.  CASE (the Council for Advancement of Secondary Education) is the premier professional organization for institutional advancement among colleges and universities, and its eight-state District VI annual conference concluded last week in St. Louis.

Southwestern was named sweepstakes award winner in its enrollment category, an honor based on award-winning entries in communications and graphic design.  The initial awards competition is not limited by enrollment of institutions, so SC was competing not only against such Big 12 schools as Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and the University of Missouri, but also against distinguished private institutions including St. Louis University.

This is the first time Southwestern has won the sweepstakes competition; it was runner-up in 2006-07.

“We are delighted by this recognition from the premier professional organization in educational advancement,” said Sara Weinert, vice president for communications at Southwestern.  “We were very pleased with the validation of the good work done by the Southwestern team.”

Individual entries honored and persons credited for their creation included:

• Gold award, “The Southwesterner” alumni tabloid (Sara Weinert, editor; Susan Burdick, designer).
• Silver award, graphic design for “The Southwesterner” (Susan Burdick).
• Silver award, logo design for SC Summer Music Festival (Susan Burdick).
• Bronze award, “Make-a-Gift” Web site (Jessica Hornbostel, Terry Quiett, and Joe Morrow).
