From Alumni Programs

Susan Lowe '95

It is hard to believe another school year has been completed. This issue of The Southwesterner recognizes the one defining element that symbolizes our institution, the college graduate. As Commencement fades into memory, more than 340 graduates of the Class of 2002 now join the other 15,962 Southwestern alumni.

Alumni status means different things to different people. Some accept their degrees and never look back, while others distance themselves for a time and return years later in a surge of nostalgia. Then there are those who go about their lives and regularly enjoy opportunities to stay connected with their alma mater and former classmates. Southwestern College alumni programs can be beneficial to all of these.

Even if you never take part in an alumni event or program, The Southwesterner and the SC Web site will keep you informed of what is happening. Should you decide to become involved, the details are there to make it possible. As we welcome the newest alumni of Southwestern College, the Class of 2002, we take pride in the accomplishments of all Builder alumni. Truly, you embody the words "Come Here. Go Far."

For more information about alumni events and programs, check our Web site at www.sckans.edu/alumni/alum_index.html or contact me at 1-800-846-1543 ext. 6334, or at slowe@sckans.edu.

The business hall of fame display will be located in the newly-renovated Mossman Hall. The ribbon cutting will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, and the induction ceremony will follow at 3:45 p.m. in the Roy L. Smith Student Center dining hall.

Plan to attend this opportunity to recognize some of the outstanding business alumni from Southwestern, and stay for the Homecoming/campaign kickoff dinner celebration in Stewart Field House.

Moundbuilder Memories

If you have a favorite memory of your college days at Southwestern, then this is your chance to share your tale. The alumni programs department is proud to announce the Moundbuilder Memories short story contest. Whether your reflection is happy, silly, poignant, scholarly, or even sad, we want to hear how your campus experience enriched your life and left you with an indelible memory of Southwestern College.

Two categories are offered: traditional alumni and professional studies alumni. Contest entries will be accepted through Aug. 31. No late entries will be accepted.

One overall grand prize winner will be selected for an expense-free Homecoming weekend package, plus have the story printed in The Southwesterner.

For full details check the SC Web site at www.sckans.edu/.

Legacy Photo

Multi-generation Moundbuilders, take note: On freshman move-in day, Friday, Aug.23, 2002, the SC alumni programs will host a cookie break and legacy photo for all multi-generation Moundbuilders and their families. This is the only notice you will receive. When you come to campus, look for our table in the snack bar of the
Roy L. Smith Student Center. We will offer you warm greetings and cold drinks, along with some cookies to help strengthen you for the move-in process.

The cookie break is from 1 to 3 p.m., and you can come and go as your time allows. Plan to gather at the snack bar area promptly at 3 p.m. for the photo. We look forward to seeing you there!
