As a new school term begins, anticipation
of another year of Moundbuilder connections grows. A number of events
and programs are available for alumni and friends across the country.
Of course the crown jewel for each year is Homecoming, and this year's
celebration is perhaps the finest one yet. The theme, "Builders of Excellence,"
embodies the college nickname, Moundbuilders, and qualifies the high
standards by which Southwestern is known. We can all take pride in the
Homecoming theme, just as we do in the college itself. Please make a
point to check out the Homecoming schedule and try to come back for
the fun and excitement of "coming home."
Regardless of whether you can or can't
come back, I hope you will become aware of the ways that alumni and
friends can volunteer for Southwestern. One of the top priorities this
year in the alumni department is that of developing a volunteer program.
The needs and opportunities for volunteer services extend from departments
and classrooms across the entire campus and into the professional studies
centers. Whether you live near or far, if you have a talent to share,
a desire to be involved with your alma mater, and some time to offer,
there is probably a way the college can benefit from your volunteer
effort. Details about volunteer roles will be provided in future Southwesterner
editions.
Meanwhile, if you have an interest in finding
out more about becoming a Builder volunteer, call me at 1-800-846-1543
ext. 6334, or e-mail me at slowe@sckans.edu. For more information about
alumni events and programs, check our Web site at www.sckans.edu/alumni/alum_index.html.
