SC Career Services to Offer ‘Backpack to Briefcase’ on Friday, March 25
Southwestern College career services will host “Backpack to Briefcase” on Friday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Deets Library.
According to Lori Carselowey, director of career services at Southwestern College, the event will provide a festive and learning atmosphere for SC students and help prepare them for the upcoming SC Career Expo on April 8.
“To create ‘Backpack to Briefcase,’ Career Services partnered with Jinx’s Toolbox, a series of six workshops created to help new SC students gain critical skills needed for college,” Carselowey says. “The sixth event in the series has blossomed to become this college-wide affair on March 25.”
All students who attend and turn in their sign-in cards will be eligible to win prizes. Senior women are encouraged to register with Dress for Success for free business attire.
Thirteen stations will be set up in the library. Those stations will include resume reviews, mock interviews, networking, professional headshots, discussions with Pi Gamma Mu about going to graduate school, and internship searches. At 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., the Southwestern College Enactus team will present a fashion show. Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic, and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
The Career Expo will follow on Friday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Stewart Field House. At least 20 area businesses and companies will have tables set up to provide information and possible job opportunities. Students from several area high schools along with students from Southwestern College and Cowley College will be in attendance.
