Southwestern College Announces Academic and Leadership Honors

Southwestern College’s Academic Dean, Ross Peterson-Veatch, has released a Honors Convocation video message. Along with the video, academic and leadership awards have been posted.

Some of the students recognized include:

2020-21 Scholars of the College

The 2020-21 Scholars of the College are two students who have achieved the highest grade-point average among full-time students who are enrolled in campus-based programs, have earned 85 or more credit hours, and have not previously been named to the honor. They are Erin Hall, Norwich, and Nicholas Detter, Andover.

Junior Marshalls

Junior Marshalls are two full-time students who are enrolled in campus-based programs and have earned between 79 and 110 hours (inclusive), of which at least thirty are graded hours earned at Southwestern, having the highest cumulative grade point averages.  They are Maria Collins, Wichita, and Jessica Coleman, Salina.

Masterbuilders

The Masterbuilder award is given to six graduating seniors who best embody what it means to be a Builder and typify the spirit of Southwestern College.  They are Braden Calvin, Lakin; Kerry Coleman, Fort Worth, Texas; Drake Foster, Denton, Texas; Jean Francois-Kuoume, Houma, La.; Marcus Richard, Pearland, Texas; and Keyshawn Wyatt, Grapevine, Texas.

“Especially, in this year, when presented with so many extraordinary challenges, I want to thank you and congratulate you for your hard work,” Peterson-Veatch said to students via video message. “Your college is proud of you.”

The annual Southwestern College Honors Convocation is the first in the college’s calendar of commencement festivities – which culminate on May 9 at the Class of 2021 Commencement Ceremony.  The Honors Convocation was held virtually this year to mitigate any possible spread of COVID-19. This extra precaution was taken as the college approaches final exams and commencement.

The video message along with a full list of honors, including the Deans Honor Roll, Phi Theta Kappa Scholars, and Bishop’s Scholars, can be found at www.sckans.edu/honors.
