Record Breaking Freshman Class Moves into Southwestern College

A record breaking freshman class has moved into their residence halls at Southwestern College.

Southwestern College President Brad Andrews reports that as of Wednesday, 194 freshmen had moved onto campus, representing the largest freshman class in the 133 year history of the college.

The first, second, and fourth largest freshman classes have enrolled at Southwestern in the last three years; currently holding the third spot is the Centennial Class of 1985.

“It is a joy to welcome this large and energetic class, the Class of 2022, to campus and to Winfield,” said Andrews. “They are an excellent group who bring with them wonderfully unique perspectives, talents, and hopes. I look forward to seeing all the ways they augment and strengthen our community.”

Stephannie DeLong, director of admission at Southwestern College, attributes the enrollment success to the care and dedication of the campus and the Winfield communities.

“We are very excited to welcome the Class of 2022 to the Builder family,” says DeLong. “To have another record freshman class join our campus community is a testament to the work of our faculty, staff, and community – and to the mission of Southwestern College.”

The rest of the student body will return by Aug. 17; classes begin on Monday, Aug. 20.

The community is invited to share in the excitement of the 91st Moundbuilding Ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Cole Mound Plaza located at the bottom of the 77 Steps.
