JourneyKids Choir Open House is Oct. 6
The Community Music School (CMS) at Southwestern College’s JourneyKids Choir will host an open house and rehearsal Thursday, Oct. 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The theme of the open house is “The Singing Games,” and students will have the opportunity to learn new songs and musical games with their peers.
“Open houses are a wonderful opportunity for students and families to attend a rehearsal, experience our program, and have a little fun in the process,” says Dylan Moore, CMS director.
The CMS JourneyKids Choir, which is for students grades 2-8, is a choral opportunity for students of all experience levels from south central Kansas and the Walnut Valley. The JourneyKids Choir will have a final enrollment following the open house, which will be the last time for students to join the group for the fall 2016 semester. The group’s culminating fall performance will be at Winterfest, held on Dec. 4 with the Southwestern College performing arts division in Richardson Performing Arts Center.
Regular rehearsals are held in Darbeth Rehearsal Hall on the Southwestern College campus on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The fee per semester for involvement in the group is $10 per month with a total cost of $40 per student. Partial need-based tuition scholarships are available.
“This open house will be a fun experience for children, teachers, and parents who enjoy music,” says director Nikki Kirk. “Everyone is encouraged to come and experience the joy of JourneyKids."
“We invite any students, parents, and teachers of the community for an informative and enlivening experience with our wonderful young singers,” Moore adds.
