Photography by Stacy Sparks on Display at Winfield Arts and Humanities Council
Photographs by Stacy Sparks are on display until Sept. 30 at the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council (WAHC), 700 Gary Street in Winfield. WAHC is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The photographs were made during a sabbatical from Southwestern College between August and December 2015. The exhibit is entitled “Contemplation” and includes 48 images selected from nearly 7,000 photographs
Sparks teaches journalism and photography at Southwestern College in Winfield. A founding member of the Walnut Valley Camera Club, Sparks grew up in Dodge City and has been teaching journalism and advising student media staffs since 1988. She taught at St. Mary of the Plains College and then at Dodge City Community College before moving to Winfield in 2006 with her husband, Pat England.
Sparks’ work has been included in the Five-State Photography Show, as well as juried competitions in Liberal, Wichita, and Lubbock, Texas. She has shown her work in group and solo shows in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Alabama and has participated in photography workshops in Colorado, Maine, Montana and New Mexico.
She was inducted into the College Media Association Hall of Fame in October 2015. An active member of CMA and Kansas Collegiate Media, she has served in several leadership roles in both organizations.
