Opera House Cultures on the Kansas Frontier

The Winfield Public Library in Winfield will host “Opera House Culture on the Kansas Frontier,” a presentation and discussion by Jane Rhoads on January 12 at 6:00 pm. Contact the Winfield Public Library at 620-221-4470 for more information. The program is made possible by the Kansas Humanities Council.

Jane Rhoads is the author of Kansas Opera Houses, Actors, and Community Events 1855–1925, a 2009 Notable Kansas Book. She has traveled the state locating and photographing Kansas’ remaining opera houses and learning about their social and theatrical significance.

This presentation is being offered in conjunction with The Community Music School's upcoming production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Sorcerer" which will perform in Richardson Performing Arts Center on March 4th and 5th, 2017. For more information regarding "The Sorcerer", please contact Dylan Moore at 620-229-6188 or cms@sckans.edu.

“Opera House Culture on the Kansas Frontier” is part of the Kansas Humanities Council’s Kansas Stories Speakers Bureau, featuring presentations and discussions that examine our shared human experience—our innovations, culture, heritage, and conflicts.
