Founders Day Weekend April 11-12 at SC

Founders Day weekend at Southwestern College will be Friday and Saturday, April 11-12.  Five Southwestern College halls of fame will open their doors to new inductees. The celebration will include recognition of inductees entering the Leaders in Service Hall of Fame for the Social Sciences, as well as the Fine Arts, Business, Scholars, and Educators Halls of Fame.

Hall of Fame festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, with the unveiling of plaques of those entering the Leaders in Service Hall of Fame for the Social Sciences.  At 6 p.m. there will be a dinner in Deets Library followed by the induction ceremony at 6:45. Limited seating is available and RSVP is necessary.

Saturday’s schedule begins with the unveiling of plaques honoring the inductees into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame at 10:30 a.m. in the Darbeth Fine Arts Center lobby.  The induction ceremony will be at 11 a.m. in Messenger Auditorium.
               
At 12:30 p.m., a luncheon will be held for the Business Hall of Fame in Deets Library, with the induction ceremony to begin at approximately 12:45 p.m.  Seating is limited and RSVP is needed.

At 3:30 p.m., in Deets Library, there will be a reception for the Educators and Scholars Hall of Fame inductees. At 4 p.m., the induction ceremony for the Educators Hall of Fame will begin followed by the induction ceremony for the Scholars Hall of Fame at approximately 4:45 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m., Jonathan Larson’s rock musical, “Rent” will be presented inside the Richardson Performing Arts Center.  Tickets are $10 adults, $5 students.  For tickets, call 620-221-7720.
           
“Founders Day weekend is a shining moment every year at Southwestern College,” says Susan Lowe, director of alumni programs at SC.  “The halls of fame provide an opportunity for the college to recognize several outstanding Moundbuilders.  Their successes validate the education provided here.”

• Leaders in Service: Pedro M. Esquivel ’62, Harry H. Dunn ’23, and Bishop Bruce Blake.
• Fine Arts: George M. Cole ’63, Loren B. Crawford ’34, and Ronald M. Curfman ’64.
• Business: Rodney C. Kreie ’77, James L. Richardson ’70, and Merle D. Sharick ’68. Business Builder Award: Sandy Foust.
• Educators: Frank D. Davidson ’79, John W. Marshall ’70, and Ronda J. (Sims) Marshall ’70.
• Scholars: Marilyn (Brown) Corbin ’70, and Everett V. Samuelson ’48.
