‘Eagerheart’ to be Performed Off-Campus

The Southwestern College Campus Players will present their 81st annual production of “Eagerheart” by A.M. Buckton. This year “Eagerheart” will be presented off-campus at two locations in Winfield and there will be four performances.

Performance times and locations include:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church
  • Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m., at Grace United Methodist Church
  • Sunday, Dec. 8, at 10:50 a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church
  • Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

“As an organization, we decided to do the show off-campus this year,” says Campus Players President Nikia Smith.  “The joy of presenting this show off-campus is the fun of doing the show in a different venue however that also poses a challenge in learning those spaces.  We get a lot of pleasure performing this show for the community.”

“Eagerheart,” by early 20th century English playwright A.M. Buckton, celebrates the legend that Christ and the Holy Family travel the earth each year, blessing one deserving home where they rest on Christmas Eve.   Eager Heart and her sisters, Eager Fame and Eager Sense, along with shepherds and Kings of Power, Wisdom, and Love, reveal their understanding of Christ and His teachings.  The search for the Holy Family is tested by beggars seeking food and shelter.  The play challenges and inspires audiences to live by Christ’s teachings throughout the year.

“I really enjoy watching how the audience reacts to the show,” Smith says.  “This is something special that the Campus Players can bring and we look forward to bringing the Christmas spirit to the community.”

There is no admission charge to attend any of the performances.

Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.  About 1,700 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at six professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.
