SC Senior to Lead Final CMS Masterclass
The final 2010-11Masterclass at the Community Music School (CMS) at Southwestern College has been scheduled for Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m.-noon. Tim Miller, SC music performance major, is presenting. There is no admission charge.
The title of the class is “Practice Techniques for Consistency.”
Miller is a violin performance major and will be speaking about his experiences from The Magic Mountain Music Farm in Morris, N.Y. While studying there in the spring of 2009 he learned several techniques from the director of The Magic Mountain Music Farm, Burton Kaplan, who is also a violin professor at the Manhattan School of Music.
According to Miller his class will focus on practicing for expression and consistency.
“This class will help students of all ages learn how to practice music fully and completely,” Miller says.
“As we approach the summer months, it can be difficult to keep up good practice habits,” says Melissa Williamson, administrator of the CMS. “Everyone who attends on Saturday is encouraged to bring their instrument and a piece of music they are currently working on to try new practice ideas.”
The Community Music School hopes to continue the Masterclasses in the 2011-12 school year.
