SC Concert Band to Perform Sunday

The Southwestern College Concert Band presents “Some Enchanted Evening in Lincolnshire” on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. in the Winfield High School Auditorium.

The program will include “Lincolnshire Posy” by Percy Grainger and “Rose Variations for Cornet and Band” by Robert Russell Bennett, which will feature assistant professor Jimmy Leach on trumpet.

“This year marks the 50th and 30th anniversaries of the deaths of Percy Grainger and Robert Russell Bennett, respectively. Besides composing original works, both men had a special talent for orchestrating and arranging the melodies of others," says Leach.

The Concert Band will present elements of this program next week at the annual In-Service Workshop of the Kansas Music Educators Association.
Executive director and conductor Daniel Stevens say “the honor of being selected to perform is one that hundreds of ensembles apply for every year and our selection is a mark of respect for the music we are making here in Winfield.”

This will be the first of several performances taking place at Winfield High School as Richardson Auditorium is undergoing a much-anticipated renovation as a part of Southwestern’s Great Performances Campaign.

Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door and are $5. For more information on this or any of the Band’s 2010-2011 performances, contact Lou Tharp at (620) 229-6272 or visit the website at www.sckans.edu/sks-band.

The performance is underwritten by Betty Bradley.
