Faculty Organ Recital Tuesday Nov. 3

James Leland will be featured during Southwestern College’s faculty organ recital Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m., in Richardson Auditorium in Christy Administration Building.  There is no admission charge.

Selections include the final two movements of Louis Vierne’s “Symphony No. 3 for Organ in F-sharp minor” and works by Nikolaus Bruhns, David Aprahamian Liddle, and J.S. Bach.

Leland is an affiliate member of Southwestern’s music faculty as well as organist at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield.  He is professor emeritus at Hollins University in Virginia where he taught and directed the choir for 34 years.  This summer he performed for the regional convention of the American Guild of Organists in Wichita.

Leland graduated from Oberlin College and completed his master’s and doctoral degrees at Northwestern University.

The organ in Richardson Auditorium is a three-manual instrument with 35 stops and 2,057 pipes.
