Community Music School to Offer Classes

The Southwestern College Community Music School is starting a Saturday master class series that will be free to attend beginning March 28.
“Our hope is to have one master class a month by bringing in guest artists to share their passion for music,” says Melissa Williamson, administrator of the Community Music School.
According to Williamson, the first two master classes will be free and open to the public, with the choice of paying $6 for a box lunch following the classes during a meet-and-greet session with the guest instructors.
The first session will be a flute master class featuring Conor Nelson, assistant professor of flute at Oklahoma State University.  The class will be held in Wroten Hall from 10 a.m. until noon (with lunch following).
The second session will feature a viola da gamba demonstration led by William Levine and Tracy Hoover, members of the Nether Consort. The viola da gamba is a predecessor to the cello. It will be Saturday, April 4, and will last one hour beginning at 11 a.m., in the Darbeth Rehearsal Hall.  Lunch will follow the master class.
The mission of the Community Music School at Southwestern College is to nurture the fine arts community of South Central Kansas and North Central Oklahoma with rich musical experiences for people of all ages.  Their vision is to encourage excellence in the arts by offering a wide array of private lessons, master classes, ensembles, performance opportunities, and more on the campus of Southwestern College.
Registration forms can be found online at www.sckans.edu/cms.  For more information, contact Williamson at (620) 229-6172.
