SC 'Dancing with the Stars' set for Nov. 23

The Southwestern College performing arts division will highlight various dance styles from around the world in the upcoming “Dancing With the Stars” concert Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. in Richardson Auditorium.

Under the direction of Daniel Stevens, assistant professor of strings, the band will perform several pieces, including “Sun Dancing” by David Shaffer, “A Short Ballet for Awkward Dancers” by Herbert Hazelman, “Pan-American Samba” by William McRae, “A Hymn of Thanksgiving” by Eduard Kremser, “Albanian Dance” by Shelley Hanson, “Fidgety Feet” by John Edmonson, and “Mineola Waltz” by John Hawd.

“‘Dancing with the Stars’ combines a unique blend of international musical styles to get your feet tapping,” Stevens said.  “Traditional waltzes and hymns are balanced with modern compositional style.  We also want to celebrate the Thanksgiving season as a family time by asking for donations for the Winfield Community Food Pantry.”

The concert is $5 to attend and is open to the public. Children and youth who bring a canned good item to donate to the Winfield Community Food Pantry will get in free.

For those in the Golden Circle, members will be taking the Winfield Trolley to Winfield Country Club for a meal and will arrive back at Richardson Auditorium before the concert begins.
