SC Percussion Studio to Host ‘Day of Percussion’ on Friday, April 1
The Southwestern College percussion studio will host a “Day of Percussion” on Friday, April 1. The all-day event is for percussion students, teachers, and enthusiasts and will include a clinic, masterclass, and competition.
Southwestern College assistant professor of music, Jeremy Kirk, is heading the event.
“The Day of Percussion promises to be a rewarding event for everyone involved,” Kirk says. “It will be a great educational opportunity for students and teachers as well as a very enlightening experience for community members. The clinics and masterclasses will provide valuable insight to performance techniques, while the evening concert will take the audience on a percussive journey that explores the vast world of percussion.”
The schedule for the day includes:
• 9:30 a.m.—Check in
• 10 a.m.—Clinic “Finding your Sound: Technique, Tone, and Tenacity”
• 11 a.m.—Masterclass
• 12:30 p.m.—Lunch (provided by the Office of Admission at SC)
• 1:30 p.m.—Jeremy Kirk lecture recital.
• 2:30 p.m.—Clinic “StraighFOURward: Four-mallet Technique Simplified”
• 3:30 p.m.—Competition. Solo snare drum (orchestral or marching) and solo keyboard percussion (marimba, xylophone, or vibraphone)
• 5:30 p.m.—Dinner break (on your own)
• 7:30 p.m.—Evening performances from Kirk, the Southwestern College Percussion Group, and the Southwestern College African Drum and Dance Ensemble
