Community Music School at Southwestern College Has Openings
The Community Music School (CMS) at Southwestern College has openings in its piano, voice, violin, and organ studios for those interested in exploring music for the first time or perfecting their craft with experienced instructors. Openings are available through both collegiate student studios and community teacher studios at the college.
“Music lessons provide great opportunities for musical growth in addition to the wonderful education that is provided within the public schools,” says Dylan Moore, director of the Community Music School. “I would highly encourage anyone who is potentially interested to take a leap and experience the joy that musical learning can provide.”
All experiences levels and ages are welcome. Lessons are taught in 30-minute and 60-minute time slots and are scheduled at the convenience of both the teacher and the student.
The CMS also has performing ensembles such as the Southwestern College Choral Union (SCCU) which is for community members and students ages 16 and up. The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m., starting Tuesday, Jan. 19.
For students in grades 2-6, the CMS offers the JourneyKids Choir, an enrichment opportunity focusing on improving the musical skills of younger individuals while developing a nurturing environment. JourneyKids meets on Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30 p.m, beginning Feb. 4.
