JourneyKids Choir to Perform December 12

The JourneyKids Choir, a group made up of second- to fifth-grade students, will perform its inaugural Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. in Richardson Performing Art Center on the Southwestern College campus.

The concert will feature the nine-member group singing holiday tunes such as “Santa Makes the Rounds;” “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot;” “Alleluia, I Will Sing;” and “Snowflakes” in addition to other holiday favorites.

Dylan Moore, director of the Community Music School, says that the original starting time changed to avoid a conflict with the Christmas parade in Winfield, which begins at 7 p.m.

“We would love to see the whole community at this celebration of the holidays prior to the Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade,” Moore says.  “The concert should really get everyone into the holiday spirit.”

The group is conducted by musical director Nikki Kirk, and is accompanied by Sara Weinert.

“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to perform for the Winfield community and hope to see everyone at our holiday concert,” Kirk says.

Admission to the concert is free for students and children and is $10 for adults. Proceeds from the concert support the ensemble’s continued growth and scholarship program to provide the opportunity for all area students to experience music.

The group’s debut performance was on Nov. 22 at the Community Thanksgiving Service which was organized and provided by the Winfield Ministerial Alliance.

For tickets or more information on either attending the concert or getting your child involved for the spring, call Dylan Moore, director of the Community Music School, at 620-229-6188 or email cms@sckans.edu.
