SC Composition Recital to Unveil Students’ Work

Brand new music will be unveiled at Southwestern College’s composition recital on Friday, Nov. 9, in Messenger Recital Hall in the Darbeth Fine Arts Building. The recital will unveil new works by student composers at Southwestern College including Nathan Johnson, Emily Tilton, Deanna Johnson, Lauren Schmitz, Brandon Schmitz, and 2009 graduate Chance Alquest.

“This concert will feature a variety of interesting new works by student composers at SC, says Christopher Schmitz, director of music composition.  “Composers participating in the recital span a range from absolute beginners through those exploring more advanced compositional techniques. Regardless of ability level, some aspect of a composer’s individuality usually manifests in his or her work, marking it as a personal expression.”

The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be free and open to the public. Performers include Stephen Butler, Rae Lynn Baker, and the Student Loans.
