Come and learn how to incorporate global music into your music program!
The Global Music Pedagogy Workshop will highlight culturally responsive teaching practices while emphasizing responsible selection of repertoire, curricular content, and concert programming. Sessions on pedagogy, historical context, connecting with communities, and active music-making are woven together to help educators promote intercultural understanding through music in their classrooms.
The workshop will be led by nationally recognized artist and clinician Jeremy Kirk.
Dining
Lunch will be provided in the newly-renovated Southwestern College Dining Hall for each of the five days. Price is included in the conference fee.
Breakfast and dinner will be on your own.
On-Campus Housing
Cost: $175 (optional)
Linens: $15 (optional)
Optional on-campus housing is available for Sunday-Thursday. You will stay in a private room in Winfield Hall with a Jack-and-Jill bathroom shared with another workshop participant.
Optional Linens: Pillow, pillow case, sheets, blanket, bath towel and hand towel. Attendees need to bring their own personal items (i.e. soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc).
Credit Available
Cost: $100 per credit hour
From 1-3 college credits are available. If you are interested in receiving credit for the workshop, mark on the form and you will be contacted for additional information and payment.

Meet Your Instructor
Jeremy Kirk, M.A.
Percussionist, educator, composer, and ethnomusicologist Jeremy Kirk is an Associate Professor of Music at Southwestern College (Winfield, KS). Recipient of the Southwestern College Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award, Kirk is deeply committed to providing students the skills necessary to excel in today's world as an educator, performer, and global citizen. Highly regarded and in demand for his expertise in arts and culture of Polynesia, he combines his traditional training in Western percussion with his extensive knowledge in world music to create a unique global perspective in his teaching and performing. Kirk is an artist and clinician with Majestic Percussion, Mapex Drums, Vic Firth Sticks & Mallets, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Drumheads & World Percussion, and Black Swamp Percussion.
