Avoiding Plagiarism

When adding the words of another into your paper, be careful to avoid plagiarism.  Plagiarism is the unacknowledged use of someone else's words or ideas.  American institutions insist on properly documenting outside sources in all papers.  The penalty of plagiarism, either accidental or intentional, is severe and can result in expulsion from Southwestern College.  This handout is designed to help you develop strategies for avoiding accidental plagiarism.
