4. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS and have the scores forwarded to the Office of Admission. The TOEFL code number for Southwestern College is 6670. If applying for English proficiency through other means, forward documentation such as transcripts accompanied by an explanation to the Office of Admission for review.

5. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation

Forward two letters of recommendation, translated into English, from teachers or professors who are familiar with your academic ability.

6. Personal Statement

Write a 500-word statement that explains why you want to study at Southwestern College, why you want to study your particular program, and how your degree will help you accomplish your future goals.

7. Certification of Finances Form

Complete the Certification of Finances Form documenting amounts of financial support from sources other than Southwestern College. If sponsored by the student’s home government, send a certified letter indicating amount of support and billing information.

8. Form I-20

Upon acceptance for admission, the student will be forwarded a Form I-20. This should be presented to the student’s local United States consular officer to obtain a student F-1 visa. Southwestern College requires a $1,000 deposit before it can issue an I-20. This deposit will apply towards tuition and fees. If for some reason the student does not attend SC, $900 will be refunded. International students will be required to pay a $200 SEVIS fee to obtain a visa at the embassy. This is not a Southwestern College fee, but a United States government fee.

Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program (IEP) at Southwestern College is designed to give international students the language skills they will need to be successful students at an American university. We offer full-time classes (20 hours per week) at our beautiful campus in Winfield, Kansas. There are beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of instruction. Students who pass the final level are eligible to enroll in degree seeking programs.

Jonathan WoonJonathan Woon (Malaysia)

"Connections, it is all about connections. If you know how to use these resources at Southwestern, it can happen for you. The best part of a small college is if students know how to maximize the experience, they will get a lot out of it."
